Still sluggish in the mornings?

Just a quick one today, my husbands car is out of action so I had to drive him to the airport with sleepy kids in the back at 5.00am!  Dark and cold, not a wonderful combination!  I feel like the rest of the day has been spent in catch up mode.

So, I’m sort of brushing over and improving on something I’ve written about before which is my lemon and ginger drink in the morning.  Did you try it yet?  If so let me know how you got on and if not, do it!  Start tomorow, make it the first thing you put in your body in the morning and stick to it for 3 weeks.  Then see what happens when you revert back to your caffeinated start and tell me which one makes you feel better.

The thing is, whilst I stand by my original and very uncomplicated recipe, I think I’ve actually made it better, and possibly easier, and definitely more nutritious!  It all came about when I read somewhere that there are more of the good things in the lemon peel than in the juice itself. In fact, lemon peels contain about 5 to 10 times more vitamins than lemon juice!  All that amazing goodness that has just been lamenting in the bin and that’s just scratching the surface.  They also contain fiber, potassium, magnesium, calcium, folate and beta carotene just to name a few.  They can help prevent osteoporosis, inflammatory polyarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.  This sounds like something we definitely need to be tapping into but I’m not about to just bite into a whole lemon and chew, the thought makes my face scrunch up!

However, I have devised a way of incorporating all that into my morning drink and it really couldn’t’ be easier.  I simply chop up a whole lemon and pop it in the nutribullet until smooth.  Sometimes this needs a little dash of water to really get the consistency right but once it’s smooth you can pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze ready to add to your warm water in the morning.

I was worrying this was going to taste bitter and pithy but not at all.  In fact, I think I prefer it.  The sharpness is gone and it makes for a more mellow drink in the morning.

Definitely give this a go, the benefits I have mentioned are only skimming the surface of how good lemons are for you in the morning.  And don’t forget the probiotics to kick off the day with a positive gut and therefore a positive mind. You can read one of my past post on it HERE
