My hands look like a builders..

So my dog got diagnosed with an allergy to house mite this week.  I mean of all the things…she’s allergic to our period house with over a hundred years worth of house mite accumulated in every beam, nook and cranny.   My husband merely raised an eyebrow like it was about time something got done about the general dustiness of the place!

So while man’s best friend sits in the corner absently scratching her ears the frantic spring clean begins, only it’s the middle of winter and my poor hands not only have to deal with the harsh climate but now they are being subjected to every cleaning product known to man.natural-hand-cream

Even as a small child I used to get cracked, peeling and bleeding hands that itched so badly I would sometimes employ the use of a fork to itch them.  Every doctor I saw put it down to eczema and I was prescribed creams and soaks which sometimes gave me some relief but never cured the problem.  Not one doctor (it was a while back now) thought to ask the question of why I had eczema on my hands until a friend suggested that perhaps I was allergic to something that was going on my hands (like detergent).  Seemed like an excellent excuse not to do the washing up so I embraced this diagnosis and started watching what I used and tried to be more natural with my hand products.  This actually worked!  The symptoms were dramatically reduced and its been years since I suffered cracked, itchy and bleeding hands, however, around this time of year if I’m not on the ball I start to get rough patches on my fingers and my knuckles can start to dry out and crack.

I know I’m not the only one who suffers from this and of course we all have our ways of dealing with the issue.  I make sure I always use gloves when cleaning, all my hand soaps are free from sulphates, parabens and detergents and I always use a natural moisturiser after I wash them.  But even after all this care and attention, the odd rough patch still emerges and this is where my beauty must have comes in play. We all have that one product that we wouldn’t do without, that is always lurking in the handbag or on the bedstand.  Mine is the Wild Rose Beauty Balm, it’s a god send.  I use it to cleanse my face, as a deep night moisturiser when my face is feeling a little dry (usually around twice a week – wait till you feel your skin in the morning…!), as a lip balm and for dry patches on my hands, elbows etc.  Its bursting with antioxidant rich wild rosehip and sometimes I’ll even use it on top of my makeup just to highlight the old cheekbones.  Definitely give this one a try, it’s won loads of awards and of course the smell is to die for.

There is even a Wild Rose hand cream but I have to admit I have only just starting using this one (my husband is already counting the Neal’s Yard products around the house!) but if anyone has used it for a sustained period I would love to know what you think.

Health and happiness as always.
